Trim & Crop Video

Cut timelines or crop dimensions before exporting to MP4, MOV or WebM.

Processing Mode

100% client-side via ffmpeg.wasm, a WebAssembly build of the FFmpeg encoder — no file chunks are ever uploaded.

Privacy & Speed

Zero latency from uploads. Nothing you drop or paste here is sent to a server.

Local Hardware

Video/audio encoding runs as compiled WebAssembly on your device's CPU — the same codecs a desktop app would use, without installing one.

Trim & Crop Video

Cut your video to the exact segment you need, with an optional pixel crop — entirely in your browser.

What it does

The Trim & Crop tool lets you set a start and end time (in seconds) on any video file and export only that segment. An optional crop lets you specify a pixel width, height, and top-left X/Y offset to cut the frame down too. All processing happens locally using FFmpeg WebAssembly, so your footage never leaves your device. See Trimming, Converting, and Extracting Audio From Video for how this compares to the other video tools and what the single-threaded WASM build means for longer files.

How to use

  1. Open Trim & Crop Video and upload or drag a video file.
  2. Set the start time and end time in seconds.
  3. Optionally, toggle "Crop" on and enter a width, height, X, and Y in pixels to also crop the frame.
  4. Click "Start Trim" and download the trimmed (and optionally cropped) clip.

Output format

The trimmed clip is always exported as MP4 — there's no format selector for this tool. If you need a different container, run the result through the Video Transcoder afterward.

Common use cases

  • Trim long recordings into short-form content for TikTok, Reels, or Shorts.
  • Cut filler from screen recordings before embedding in slide decks.
  • Extract the key moment from a long meeting or webinar recording, and crop out a distracting corner of the frame.
  • Save only the best part of vacation or event footage.

FAQ

Is there a file size limit?

Free accounts can process videos up to 100 MB. Premium users can handle files up to 500 MB.

Does trimming re-encode the video?

Yes — FFmpeg.wasm re-encodes the selected segment to ensure clean cuts at any frame, not just keyframes.

Can I crop the dimensions too?

Yes. Toggle "Crop" on and enter width, height, and an X/Y offset in pixels. There's no visual drag-to-crop UI yet — you type in exact pixel values — so it helps to know your source video's resolution first.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. InstantTools processes everything inside your browser with FFmpeg WebAssembly. Your video data stays entirely on your device.

Privacy

All video processing runs 100% client-side via FFmpeg.wasm. No frames, audio, or metadata are transmitted to external servers.
