This tool cycles through a short, curated list of font pairings rather than generating new suggestions per request. Each click moves to the next pairing in a fixed set, each pre-selected for a specific use case (editorial, SaaS, product UI, marketing, long-form reading). It's a hand-picked shortlist meant to save you from an empty "which two fonts go together?" decision — not a model reasoning about your specific project brief.

Why heading and body fonts have different jobs

A heading font is read in short bursts at large sizes, where character and personality matter more than long-form legibility — display and editorial serif faces with distinctive letterforms work well here even if they'd be tiring in a paragraph. A body font is read continuously at small sizes, where legibility, generous x-height, and even spacing matter far more than personality — which is why the same distinctive display font that makes a great headline usually makes a poor paragraph face. That principle is why each pairing here pulls its heading and body font from those two different jobs, not two fonts picked for looking similar.

The current pairings

| Use case | Heading font | Body font | |---|---|---| | Editorial / blogs | Playfair Display | Inter | | SaaS landing pages | Space Grotesk | DM Sans | | Long-form reading | Merriweather | Source Sans 3 | | Product UI | Poppins | Roboto | | Marketing hero sections | Bebas Neue | Open Sans |

What this tool doesn't do (yet)

It doesn't take a text description of your brand or project and generate a tailored recommendation — every click surfaces the next pairing from the fixed list above, in the same order, regardless of what you're building. If none of the five fit your project's tone, browsing Google Fonts' own pairing suggestions directly, or trying a few of the five against your actual heading and body copy, will get you further than re-clicking this tool.

Common uses

  • Quickly picking a safe, tested heading/body combination without researching from scratch
  • Comparing a few structurally sound pairings against your own project's tone
  • Starting point font choices for a landing page, blog, or dashboard build

FAQ

Are all suggested fonts free to use commercially?

Yes — every pairing comes from the Google Fonts library, which is free for commercial use with no licensing fees.

Does this use AI to generate custom pairings for my project?

No — it cycles through a fixed, curated list of five pairings rather than generating new suggestions based on your input.

Can I preview a pairing rendered with my own text?

Not yet — the current output is a plain text label (heading font, body font, use case) rather than a live rendered preview. To see how a pairing actually looks, copy the two font names and try them directly in Google Fonts or your design tool.

Will more pairings be added?

The current set covers five common use cases; expanding the list (and eventually generating tailored suggestions) is a reasonable next step if this proves useful.
