When someone sends back a filled-in PDF form, getting the answers out usually means retyping them by hand. Form Data Extraction reads the form fields already built into the PDF (its AcroForm structure) and exports them straight into an Excel file — no retyping, no upload.
What this tool actually does
Upload one PDF that has interactive form fields, and the tool reads every field's name, type, current value, and the page it appears on, then exports that as an .xlsx file — one row per field, not one row per document. There's no batch/multi-file upload today (Free or Premium — this isn't gated by plan, it simply isn't built yet), and there's no CSV export option — the output is always .xlsx. (Like Fill & Sign PDF, this only works on PDFs with a real AcroForm structure — see Fillable vs. Non-Fillable PDF Forms if you're not sure whether the form you have qualifies.)
How to extract form data
- Drag and drop a single PDF that has fillable AcroForm fields into the workspace.
- Click "Download XLSX."
- The spreadsheet downloads with a row for every field: its name, type, value, and page number.
What fields are read
Standard AcroForm field types are supported: single- and multi-line text fields, checkboxes (true/false), radio button groups, and dropdown/list selections.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work with scanned forms (images)?
No — this tool only reads interactive AcroForm fields that already exist in the PDF's structure. If you have a scanned picture of a paper form with no real form fields, use our OCR Text Recognition tool instead to pull out the visible text.
Can I extract data from multiple files at once?
Not today — one PDF at a time, on both Free and Premium plans. If you have several forms to process, you'll need to run each one through separately.
Does the output group data by document or by field?
By field — the spreadsheet has one row per form field (name, type, value, page), not one row per PDF. If you're processing several forms and want one row per document, you'd need to restructure the exported data afterward.
Is my data secure?
Yes. The extraction runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib — your PDF is never uploaded.
What formats can I export to?
Excel (.xlsx) only. There's no CSV export option in this tool today.
