Hours calculated from start and end times
Typing total hours by hand invites arithmetic mistakes, especially with breaks and odd end times. In this timesheet you type when you started, when you finished and how long your break was, and the hours are calculated.
How it works
The sheet has one row per day, Monday to Sunday, with the columns Day, Date, Start, End, Break (hours) and Hours worked.
- Hours worked = (end time − start time) − break, rounded to two decimals. A day from 9:00 to 17:30 with a half-hour break gives 8.00.
- Total hours adds up the week.
- Enter your hourly rate and Gross pay is calculated as total hours × rate.
The example week shows how to enter times (9:00, 17:30) and breaks as decimal hours (0.5 for 30 minutes). Days you leave blank don't count.
When to use the PDF instead
If someone has to sign the timesheet, the printable weekly timesheet PDF has employee and manager signature lines. Many people do both: calculate here, then copy the totals onto the signed PDF.
FAQ
What about shifts that end after midnight?
The formula assumes start and end are on the same day. For overnight shifts, split the hours over two rows (before and after midnight).
Does it calculate overtime?
Not separately — it gives total hours and gross pay at one rate. If you are paid overtime above 40 hours, work out those hours from the total.
Why do my times show as decimals?
The Start and End cells must be formatted as time. If you typed text instead of a time, retype it as 9:00.
